Scenes from Brazilian Life

Produced between 1974 and 1976, this series comprises 10 paintings and 100 lithographs on the theme of the Vargas period in Brazilian History (Getúlio Dorneles Vargas, 1882-1954, was president and dictator of Brazil.) In the words of the artist, “This was an imaginary exercise using the political events that influenced me and my generation.”

Usually, the images in the paintings and engravings intertwine scenes from public events with private fantasies and profiles of customs of the time. This collection is owned by the City of Recife and is housed in the Aloísio Magalhães Museum of Modern Art in Recife.

After 1987, for his personal collection, the artist reproduced the lithographs on canvas in acrylic.
